We were deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Diana’s passing this last week. She had recently checked in for the treatment of her returning Leukemia and our hopes and prayers were with her and Greg and her family. But, it was too late. Her condition had progressed so quickly that before we all knew it, she was gone. It is an unbelievable thing to write.
Diana was the first employee of Caffe Mela. We officially hired her during the building process and she patiently waited… and waited… until we opened, helping with the final stages of preparation. It was no mystery why we all came to treasure her as a fellow barista and friend. She made you smile on the inside. Her infectious positive attitude made us all, customers and staff, feel like we mattered. She wanted us to be happy! And there was no mistaking that.
Evidence of her effect on those around her became known when so many from the community rallied to show support for her fight against cancer. She inspired us with her determination and perseverance as she battled and conquered the condition. It proved to be a larger fight. Memories of her in the shop abound as I write, and with each one I grin. That’s how she would want it, I’m sure… her legacy is one of hope, beauty, and that when we think of Diana Foland, we can’t help but smile.
Diana, We love you, and you will never be forgotten.
A private service for Diana was arranged according to her wishes.

That was a very well written memorium – thank you for putting that up. Also, the pictures included are beautiful, I just can’t believe you got her to cooperate when you took those! Diana was amazing – to be frank. Although many words come to mind to describe Diana’s beautiful disposition and attitude…quite simply…and description falls short – very short. Diana was boundless when it came to beauty, and to try and confine that amazing nature with the walls of words is an attempt I could never suceed at. Diana – I loved you beyond the capacity I thought myself to have; and though we had such a brief time together – I count myself blessed and fortunate to have had such a priceless time in my life where we went beyond being happy. Thank you my love…I will miss you forever.

Though I’ve played at Caffe Mela a couple times, both very sweet experiences, I was never fortunate enough to meet Diana except through the writing on the site. I wish you all sweet memories and the unending love that is so apparent in Diana’s smile. Peace.

I origially met Diana at Starbucks in East Wenatchee where I would frequently, well daily, visit. She was a ray of sunshine, truly. I looked forward to seeing her each morning. One day, I went in as usual and there was a jar on the counter with her picture on it. I looked down and covered my mouth with my hand. I will never forget that moment. I was deeply saddened and asked if I could write her a card and leave it with them to deliver to her. I heard about the marrow drive that they were having at Albertson’s and immediately went to see if I was a match for her. I never had the opportunity to speak to her again. Today, I visited this website and saw the pictures and memorium and I was deeply saddened. I never had the chance to to see her again or see her smile. I am deeply saddened today. I will miss her as I did then and she truly touched my life. You can’t say that about many people. She is an angel. Thank you for sharing your story of her.
